My time at Fuel – Rebecca
I have been at Fuel for 6 months now and this is a chance for me to look back and give anyone interested in doing an internship/placement at Fuel an idea of what to expect and what I have taken from my time here…
Going into any new job can be daunting but coming into a fast paced marketing agency was a real step up in experience for me. From day one I was given tasks to take responsibility of including a social audit for a new client, market research and also playing a part in a design project for a client from idea generation to presenting the ideas to the client which was a great process to witness from start to finish.
Coming from university and having studied a variety of marketing aspects I thought I had a clear idea of what I would and would not enjoy, yet having the chance to put my theoretical knowledge into practice proved most of my ideas wrong! I was sure I wouldn’t enjoy the digital aspect of marketing, however, as I found my stride I’ve enjoyed the creativity of writing social messages for clients around various events. I’ve realised that it’s not just a one dimensional task of writing social messages and hoping for the best but it includes assessing its effectiveness through Google Analytics, creating digital reports and reviewing what percentage of traffic stems from social referrals and adapting the approach as necessary.
Another opportunity I have had whilst I’ve been here is having a key role in a couple of projects, one being our charity partnership of the year with Plymouth Mind. As part of this project I attended meetings where we had to develop ideas for how to drive the project forward including how to make a splash in the local community. This resulted in me, alongside the other intern, creating our own survey which will become a tool for the public in the shape of a brochure with tips and a breakdown of our findings, which will be a great accomplishment for me in terms of having tangible evidence of the work I have contributed to.
Aside from the jobs I have mentioned already I have also had other jobs such as; E-newsletter creation, keyword analysis, conducting SEO checks, collecting print quotes and editing website content. Being involved in so many different jobs has given me an all round experience and a chance to discover what I like and a direction of what I’d like to carry on after my time here.
To round up, Fuel has given me some invaluable experience that will prove a great tool when I return to University in September. More than that I have had fun, there’s never a dull moment and the responsibility you have makes you a valuable member of the team. So, if you get the opportunity to work at Fuel grab it with both hands, you won’t regret it!
