Once we’ve established these principles, you are ready to take the next step into the world of eCommerce – and we’re here every step of the way!
There are 5 models of eCommerce:
Business to Consumer (B2C): B2C eCommerce is the most common model and simply means that sales are transacted between businesses and a consumer – in the same way that a sale would usually be made in a high-street shop, for example.
Business to Business (B2B): B2B eCommerce is the arena within which businesses sell goods or services to other businesses. An important distinction between a B2B and B2C eCommerce business is that B2B isn’t consumer-facing, mostly focussing upon transactions such as raw materials, software, or even bulk orders. Wholesale eCommerce businesses would utilise a B2C channel, for example, as a route to market to their retail customers.
Consumer to Consumer (C2C): C2C eCommerce are sales between consumers without a business entity’s involvement. The rise of online marketplaces such as eBay, Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace have replaced the classic ‘classified ads’ to become some of the most widely utilised and accessible eCommerce platforms on the market.
Consumer to Business (C2B): C2B eCommerce refers to individuals selling their services or products to a business entity. Common examples of C2B in action include the exposure provided to business by social media influencers, freelance photographers and writers.
Direct to Consumer (D2C): Direct to consumer eCommerce is a fairly new concept in the sector – referring primarily to a brand selling directly to their end customer without utilising traditional routes to market such as retailers or wholesalers. D2C can include subscriptions to platforms, as well as selling via social media platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and TikTok.
