Our intern experience at Fuel

As the search begins for another intern at Fuel, our two current interns have taken the time to record some of the things they have learnt during their time with us. If you’re thinking about getting experience in this industry, have a read and hear first hand what you can expect from joining our team…
Rebecca:
During my placement at Fuel I have been involved in a variety of activities and projects that have pushed me out of my comfort zone giving me invaluable experience that utilised the knowledge I learnt at university. On a day to day basis I was given jobs to work on for various client projects which meant that no day was ever the same and I had to learn to prioritise the jobs I had to do.
I carried out several digital reports which I conducted on several of the clients we work for, this allowed me to have a greater understanding of what a client should look for to develop a more effective website and what channels are resulting in the greatest value for them. These reports were carried out before a client was taken on and also for clients that were already working with us.
Alongside the digital reports I was involved in the creation and scheduling of social media content giving me a chance to understand the logistics behind social media but also have fun with engaging with the client’s audience to generate greater activity. Another activity I was able to be a part of was the creation and distribution of e-newsletters on a few platforms such as Mailchimp and Campaign Monitor which is a skill I can now carry forward into any future roles I have.
For any new intern considering joining the Fuel team I would highly recommend coming in and having a chat. As placements go I feel I have taken a great deal of skills and knowledge from my time here that I can relate my learning too when I return to university for my final year. The team are hugely supportive and are always ready to answer any questions I might have about the work making it a great environment to learn in.
Ella:
Fuel has given me amazing experience that I will never forget when working within the marketing industry. This will greatly help me going into final year at university and gaining a graduate job in the future.
One of the jobs I have had a main role in is creating a partnership for Fuel with Plymouth Mind, as a company Fuel was very interested in supporting the community especially around the subject of mental health due to its effect on many of the people around us.
From being involved in client meetings, I have had the opportunity on a few occasions to create marketing plans by following along Fuel’s own analysis platform of the brand health check, giving an insight into the brand’s customers, perceptions etc to be able to pull out what can be done to help improve the business. From this I was then able to create a creative brief for a client creating a new brand identity, this is something that is invaluable to my experience at Fuel from conducting the analysis to creating the brief and going through this process to the end result of seeing the new brand identity.
For a few clients I have also had the experience of creating web content and inputting this through wordpress. This has been a very useful aspect to have learnt on placement due to the increase in different technologies with more and more companies becoming digitalised.
These are only some of the things that our interns have covered whilst at Fuel other activities include; Attending client meetings, collecting quotes for design projects, market research, organising events and meetings, conducting Yoast analysis on websites, addressing SEO of websites and designing presentations and many more!
