Are You Gonna Get A Gift From Google?
As an accredited Google Partner Agency, Fuel Communications is used to getting the inside track from them on changes to geeky stuff like algorithm updates or sometimes, just sometimes, exciting stuff comes through like free advertising for our clients.
So we were really excited to see that Google has announced its intention to support what we’d call SMEs (but what they call SMBs) with a global fund of £277 million in free Google Ad credits. These ad credits can be used towards future ad spend, until the end of 2020 across our Google Ads platforms. It is all part of Google’s “larger commitment to support SMBs, health organisations and governments, and health workers on the frontline of this global pandemic.”
Clearly it has been a challenging time for businesses everywhere. None of us has experienced anything like it, so a little help from Google is very welcome indeed.
SO! Let’s cut to the chase. You’re probably there thinking “How much do I get then?” and the answer is we don’t know yet. It seems that the ‘promises first, details later’ approach isn’t exclusive to the UK government but it is always useful to know that something worthwhile is on the horizon.
So, here’s what we know and of course we’ll be in touch when we know more…
What’s The Eligibility Criteria For The Free Google Ad Credits?
The criteria at the moment are as follows: “organisations who have spent with a Google Ads account in ten out of twelve months of 2019, and in January and/or February of this year”. You are eligible if you spent it directly or through us as your digital marketing agency.
What does Google classify As An ‘SMB’?
Their definition says that SMBs are “local stores to companies with hundreds of employees and many locations”. So it is a pretty wide scope.
How Will The Free Google Ad Credits Work?
Your account will get credits for future Google Ads spend which you’ll be able to use right across the Google Ads platform including Search, Display and YouTube as well as all campaign types.
When Will Google’s Global Ad Credit Fund Become Available?
The plan is to start rolling out the ad credits in phases starting from late May.
What Will You Need To Do?
Nothing. The credit will be applied directly to your account based on your previous spend and we’ll be in touch with the good news!
How Long Are The Free Google Ad Credits Valid For?
From the date you receive your free Google Ad Credits until 31 December 2020.
Got any other good news for us?
Yes, we have actually. We’ve also been notified that Google is making significant changes to Google Shopping to make Ecommerce more accessible to all companies. They are currently running a pilot project in the US (which we’re keeping an eye on at the moment) before rolling it out in the UK sometime in the autumn of this year. If you’d like to discuss Google ad credits or Google Shopping with us in more detail just give us a shout, we’d be happy to help.
