URGENT UPDATE: The time is now for an SSL Certificate

In a recent update from the Official Google Webmaster Central Blog, you may have seen that Google has warned website owners to move to HTTPS By October 2017.
If you don’t you risk losing website traffic and your website being labelled with a “NOT SECURE” notification pop-up on your website for all Chrome users (Over 55% of people use chrome).

The importance of an SSL certificate is nothing new. From an SEO, credibility and security point of view, they’re crucial for your website. FYI: An SSL certificate is what changes your site from HTTP to HTTPS in the top left of your browser.

For a bit of background and context, last October I wrote a blog post called “What is an SSL certificate and why get one?”. And then following a very informative and quite scary meeting with our friends over at Jelf (award-winning global financial consultancy and insurance broker), I wrote a piece called “A wake up call on cyber risk!“, which is a must read if you’re not concerned about current digital threats.

As a recap, back in 2014 Google announced that security was a top priority, businesses were urged to move to HTTPS for extra security. Google also confirmed that having a secure HTTPS website would be a search engine ranking factor.


More recently, Google has taken the next steps toward more connection security and have confirmed that all non-secure HTTP websites/web pages will be flagged with a non-secure warning.

We urge you to take immediate actions as this change will be rolled out in October 2017!


So what do you need to do?

In order to move your website to HTTPS you need to install a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Certificate. Depending on your hosting provider, standard yearly SSL renewal fees start from just £30 + an installation fee.
